Pide, a delicious Turkish flatbread pizza

Turkish Flat Bread Pizza

Ingredients:

- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 1/2 cup tomato sauce
- 1 cup grated mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup sliced bell peppers
- 1/2 cup sliced tomatoes
- 1/4 cup sliced red onions
- 1/4 cup sliced black olives
- 1/4 cup crumbled feta cheese
- Fresh parsley leaves for garnish

Instructions:

To make Pide, start by preparing the dough. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, salt, and olive oil. Gradually add warm water and knead the mixture until a smooth and elastic dough forms. Cover the bowl with a clean cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour, allowing the dough to double in size.

While the dough is rising, you can prepare the topping for the Pide. Heat some olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and sauté finely chopped onions until they become translucent. Add minced garlic and cook for a minute before adding ground lamb or beef. Cook the meat until it's browned and fully cooked through, then season with salt, pepper, cumin, and paprika. Stir in diced tomatoes and cook for a few minutes until the mixture thickens slightly. Remove the skillet from the heat and set aside.

Once the dough has risen, preheat your oven to a high temperature, around 475°F (245°C). Divide the dough into equal-sized portions and roll them out into oval or boat-shaped flatbreads on a floured surface. Transfer the shaped dough onto baking sheets or a baking stone.

Spread a generous amount of the prepared meat mixture onto each flatbread, leaving a small border around the edges. You can also add sliced bell peppers, olives, or any other toppings you prefer. Brush the exposed edges of the dough with olive oil for a golden crust.

Bake the Pide in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes or until the edges turn golden brown and crispy. Once cooked, remove the Pide from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving.

To serve, you can garnish the Pide with fresh parsley, a squeeze of lemon juice, and a dollop of plain yogurt if desired. Pide is typically enjoyed as a handheld snack or a main course, perfect for sharing with friends and family.

Enjoy your homemade Pide, and savor the delicious flavors of this Turkish flatbread pizza!
